RTA expands bus-on-demand network across 4 key Dubai communities
Strong uptake highlights rising confidence in app-based transport solutions
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority has expanded its Bus-On-Demand service to four additional high-demand communities, further strengthening Dubai’s smart mobility network.
The newly added areas include Al Qusais, Jumeirah Village Circle, Al Warqa’a and Dubai Investments Park. The move is part of the authority’s continued push towards an integrated and flexible public transport system designed to improve ease of travel across the emirate. It also reflects rising demand for digital-first transport solutions that offer convenience and efficiency.
The expansion comes alongside a significant surge in usage, with the service recording 984,929 riders in 2025 compared to 417,315 in 2024. This marks an increase of 567,614 passengers, translating into growth of around 136 percent. The sharp rise highlights growing reliance on shared, app-based mobility options for daily commuting across Dubai.
The strong performance underlines increasing public confidence in the system, which is designed to reduce waiting times and improve first- and last-mile connectivity. The service continues to attract commuters seeking flexible travel options that link residential districts with key transport and commercial hubs.
Network growth
With the latest expansion, the Bus-On-Demand network now spans 17 areas across Dubai and operates a fleet of 49 minibuses. Previously covered locations include Al Barsha, Business Bay, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Downtown Dubai, DIFC, Al Karama, Oud Metha and Al Nahda, among others. The system connects neighbourhoods directly with metro stations, bus stops and major destinations, improving overall network integration.
Bookings are made through the Dubai Bus On-Demand, which allows users to select pick-up and drop-off points in real time. The service operates without fixed routes or stops, instead adjusting dynamically to passenger demand to improve efficiency and reduce journey delays.
Fares remain set at Dh 5 per trip, with Dh 4 charged for additional passengers travelling together. The service is currently supported by promotional free rides during its launch phases to encourage wider adoption across new communities.
Smart access
The on-demand model continues to position itself as a key component of Dubai’s wider sustainable mobility strategy, supporting seamless integration with the Metro and existing bus networks. Further expansion is planned in upcoming phases, alongside operational enhancements aimed at maintaining service quality as demand continues to grow.
